Man turns himself in for cold case murder

BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. -- A man stopped at the Winslow, Arizona Police Department Thursday and said he had killed a woman years earlier and wanted to get it off his chest.

Bullhead City detectives say they were contacted by the police department and told Matthew Gibson, 54, insisted he had killed a woman between 1994 and 1997. Gibson told police he was driving from North Carolina to Bullhead City when he decided to stop and confess to the unsolved killing.

The victim, Barbara Brown, 38, a Kingman, Arizona resident was found dead on July 1, 1997 in some bushes near a park on the Colorado River. Bullhead City Police said Gibson provided details that matched with the cold case.

Gibson was arrested for first degree murder and booked into the Navajo County jail.
