Medicaid provider convicted of fraud

LAS VEGAS -- Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto announced Wednesday that Solange Phillips, 31, of Las Vegas has been sentenced for Medicaid fraud.

The AG's office said Phillips pleaded guilty to and was sentenced for a gross misdemeanor offense of failure to maintain adequate records.

"Phillips failed to keep true and accurate records for Medicaid reimbursement," said Masto. "It is important that we maintain the integrity of the service and prosecute fraudulent Medicaid providers to ensure recipients continue to receive much needed services," Masto continued.

An investigation by the Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU) revealed that Phillips provided false documentation for reimbursement to a mental health company, along with submitting documentation which claimed she provided mental health services to Medicaid recipients.

However, after some digging, the MFCU realized that the hours Phillips allegedly provided to the Medicaid recipients did not reflect the actual amount of hours she listed on her documentation.  The documentation was relied upon by the mental health company for submission of claims to Nevada Medicaid. The fraud occurred from September 2012 through May 2013.

District Court Judge David Barker sentenced Phillips to 200 days in jail, along with suspended performance of 100 hours of community service. She will also have to pay a fee of $7,500 in restitution, penalties, and costs.
