Meet the new neighbor: SLS Las Vegas ushers in new era

LAS VEGAS - After more than a year of construction, the SLS Las Vegas is ready for its grand opening. The casino resort at Sahara Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard opens at midnight.

The rooms are located in three towers: Story, World and Lux. SLS representatives say the Story tower is designed to be fun and vibrant. The World tower offers a sophisticated and sleek vibe. The Lux tower provides a plush experience.

The casino stretches 60,000 square feet. The gaming area offers 800 of the latest slot and poker machines and 70 classic table games.

The entire property encompasses 2 million square feet. The price tag on the SLS Las Vegas is $415 million.

SBE Hospitality Company owns SLS Las Vegas. President and CEO Sam Nazarian says the goal is to surprise visitors as they walk into the resort.

"When you went to the Sahara, you didn't know what to expect," he said. "What we are trying to do now at SLS Las Vegas is that same element of surprise, where people are excited to show up, because they know that is the hottest spot on the planet, the most relevant place to be."

The hotel also offers cuisine from dozens of countries. Bazaar Meats, 800 Degree Pizza, Katsuya and the Griddle Cafe are some of the restaurants at SLS Las Vegas. Many restaurants cater to our 24-hour town by opening early and closing late.

Cleo, an eastern Mediterranean-themed restaurant, will feature dishes from Lebanon, Morocco and other parts of North Africa. Chef Daniel Elmaleh says he feels he is in good company on the Strip.

"There are a lot of different chefs here. It's very inspiring, and it's great to be part of the chefs at the hotel with Jose Andreas," he said.

Chef Elmaleh says his Japanese and Israeli heritage shaped his culinary background. His father opened the first Moroccan restaurant in Japan.

SLS Las Vegas also features nightclubs, shops, a full-service spa and a fitness center.
