UPDATE: Man dies after being shot by Metro officers on city's east side

LAS VEGAS - A man is dead after being shot by Las Vegas Metro Police officers Friday morning on the east side of Las Vegas.

The officer-involved shooting happened shortly before 5 a.m. when officers conducted a vehicle stop. According to Captain Christopher Little, the driver got out of the car with a gun in his hand that he dropped to the ground but picked it up and pointed it at officers.

Dozens of officers responded to the scene near Stewart Avenue and Madge Lane, near Charleston Boulevard, following the shooting.

Captain Christoper Little gave the following update.

Detectives said the man officers shot was taken to the hospital but didn't survive. No officers were injured in the altercation. There were also two women passengers in the man's car and they were not injured.

This is the 5th officer-involved shooting in Metro's jurisdiction this year.
