Metro Releases Photo of Man Shot by Police Officer

LAS VEGAS - A man identified as Miguel Martinez, 29, is in critical condition after pulling a pellet gun and being shot by police in downtown Las Vegas.

The shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. Thursday near Charleston Boulevard and Bruce Street.

Officials say trouble began Wednesday evening, when the Martinez's roommate called police to tell them Martinez had shot at him.

The suspect wasn't at the scene when officers arrived, but returned early Thursday morning.

Las Vegas Police Capt. Chris Jones said that when officers found Martinez, he pulled out a gun that was a replica of a Colt .45 pistol. Jones said it turned out to be a pellet gun.

According to Metro Police, Martinez has a criminal history which includes multiple arrests for felony narcotics and stolen vehicle related charges. He is known by the street name Psycho.

One officer fired at Martinez. That officer has been placed on administrative leave pending an internal review.
