A motorcyclist suffered critical injuries Friday afternoon following a collision with an SUV.

The crash happened shortly after 4:00 p.m. at the intersection of S. Jones Boulevard and W. Russell Road.

Metro investigators spoke with witnesses who said the driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee was making a left turn on a yellow flashing signal. At the same time, the rider of a Yamaha motorcycle failed to stop at a red traffic signal and collided with the Jeep, said witnesses.

First responders transported the motorcyclist to University Medical Center Trauma in critical condition, said police.

According to investigators, the driver of the Jeep remained on scene and did not show any signs of impairment.

The crash remains under investigation.
