Motorcyclist involved in deadly crash arrested

Las Vegas-- A motorcycle rider suspected of causing a deadly crash on I-15 and Sahara on August 15th is behind bars.

Troopers were tipped off that 27-year-old Maurice Richards, of Hesperia, California, was attending an event at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. They responded to the area and located Richards.

Just before 1:30 a.m. on August 15th, several motorcycles were going north on I-15 approaching Sahara Avenue, when Richards is said to have hit the right side of a 2008 black Honda sport bike, driven by 31-year-old Julius Gerald, of Las Vegas.

That caused the Honda to strike the center median wall, throwing Gerald into the travel lanes of I-15 where a semi tractor trailer was traveling. Gerald died and Richards took off from the scene.

Richards was taken into custody and book at the Clark County Detention Center on charges of reckless driving resulting in death, hit and run and no valid driver license. Troopers also say he also had outstanding warrants.
