Mattress and box spring cause serious overnight motorcycle crash

LAS VEGAS -

Metro Police confirm a motorcyclist was seriously injured after colliding with a mattress and box spring near the intersection of W. Flamingo Boulevard and El Capitan Way.

Original reports suggested the motorcyclist hit a car just after 1:30 a.m.  However, investigators later determined a car also hit the mattress, but did not collide with the motorcycle or the rider.

The motorcyclist was thrown from the bike and slid for a distance across Flamingo Boulevard.  The rider suffered serious injuries, but is expected to survive.

Metro Police could not immediately say where the mattress and box springs came from.

Flamingo Boulevard was closed for several hours during the investigation, but reopened before 5 a.m.

Metro Police have investigated at least five motorcycle crashes in Las Vegas over the past seven days, including another at that same intersection last Friday, in which an 18-year-old man was killed.
