Neighborhood social network site booms in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS -- The City of Las Vegas has gotten on board with a private social networking site for neighborhoods. The hope is that it will help people get to know and communicate with the neighbors in their community.

Mayor Carolyn Goodman just announced the partnership with the "Next Door Neighborhood Network." This private sector of networking if you will, can be used to alert the public of safety issues, postings/flyers of lost pets, community activities and a wide variety of other things. But this site wouldn't just be for civilians.

Emergency personnel and first responders will be able to post on Next Door Neighborhood Network's wall also.

"We can provide critical information about emergencies and fire prevention information, so it's a tool that we really see as a very powerful source of info, Chief Willie McDonald of Las Vegas Fire and Rescue.

Mayor Goodman said more than 110 Las Vegas neighborhoods launched their very own Next Door websites last month. That is about 60 percent of the city.
