Neighboring department probing fatal Vegas police SUV crash

LAS VEGAS - Police from neighboring North Las Vegas are investigating a crash involving a Las Vegas police patrol vehicle that killed a woman crossing a busy thoroughfare near a casino.

North Las Vegas police Officer Aaron Patty says the Clark County coroner scheduled an autopsy Monday after the woman was struck a little before 9 p.m. Saturday near the Sam's Town Hotel & Gambling Hall on Boulder Highway.

She died at Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center.

Her name and the names of the two officers in the marked Ford Explorer police SUV were immediately made public. The officers weren't injured.

Patty says the patrol vehicle was not responding to an emergency call at the time, and the woman was not in a crosswalk.

It was one of two fatal pedestrian crashes in the area at about the same time.
