Nevada Supreme Court denies motion in 2011 murder case of teen girl

Trial for Javier Righetti expected to proceed

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The trial for the man charged with raping and killing a northwest valley teenager is expected to proceed.

On Thursday, The Nevada Supreme Court denied Javier Righetti's petition to reinstate his guilty plea for the murder of 15-year-old Alyssa Otremba.

Righetti pleaded guilty to 10 counts connected to Otremba's death last February. However, a judge tossed out the plea the following month because Righetti did not specifically admit the murder was premeditated, willful and deliberate.

Police say Righetti raped, tortured and murdered Otremba in 2011 while she was walking home from school.
