Nevada Teen Unemployment Up From Last Year

LAS VEGAS -- Teen unemployment in Nevada averaged more than 30 percent last year making it the fifth worst state for teens to find work.

According to data collected by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Nevada had an unemployment rate of 32.8 percent for teens. Only Mississippi, Washington, California and Georgia had higher rates.

"Last year, more than one in four Nevada teens were looking for work without success," said Michael Saltsman, research fellow at Employment Policies Institute. "This tough job market isn't just a product of the recession; minimum wage mandates are keeping teens out of work."
