Nevada unemployment rate holds at 7.7 percent

CARSON CITY, Nev. - Nevada's unemployment held steady in July.

The unemployment rate remained unchanged from June at 7.7 percent. It is still lower than last year's rate of 9.9 percent.

Clark County's unemployment rate rose slightly from 7.9 percent in June to 8.2 percent in July. Nevada's jobless rate remains higher than the national average of 6.2 percent.

State officials, meanwhile, applauded Nevada's growth in jobs last month.

"Las Vegas is up 3,000 jobs over the month, and up 25,700 over the year. Reno job growth was flat this month, but is still up 7,300 year over year. Carson City experienced no monthly growth, but is up 100 compared to July 2013," said Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) chief economist Bill Anderson in a statement.

DETR says July marked the 43rd straight month of year-over-year job growth in Nevada.
