(Oct. 22) -- Another Nevada resident has stepped forward claiming their right to vote has been undermined by a voter registration company. That company -- Voters Outreach of America -- was hired by the Republican National Committee to register voters in Nevada. But as the Eyewitness News I-Team has been reporting, the company is under investigation, after reportedly throwing out registration forms signed by Democrats.
The latest case in Washoe County involves Eric Amberson, who signed up to vote in Reno. "We just stood there and filled out the form and then she checked it over, gave us our receipts and said have a nice day. We believed we were registered," Amberson said.
Washoe County records show neither Amberson nor his wife, both democrats, are registered.
Amberson commented, "Someone has taken the initiative to remove people's rights away from them and make a decision for them and I think that's wrong."
Again, the company involved is Voters Outreach of America. On Oct. 12th, former employee Eric Russell showed the I-Team examples of registrations for democrats that had been torn up. Russell claims it was common.
Last Friday, Clark County Judge Valerie Adair refused to re-open voter registration. Adair has ties to the Republican Party.
State Senator Dina Titus says that refusal opens the door for further legal action if the presidential election in Nevada is close. "I think certainly it gives us yet another reason to challenge this is things are really close. I think this election could well be a mess."
Meantime, there's another reason to question the process. A 16-year-old Las Vegas boy is registered to vote in Clark County.
Elections chief Larry Lomax says checks and balances are in short supply when it comes to someone who tries to skirt the system. "But the law says you just have to show a picture ID. So that's valid. And that just has my name and picture on it, so you don't have to show them an ID that has your birth date on it."
In the case of Voters Outreach activities in the valley, they are currently under review by the federal Department of Justice, the FBI and the Nevada Division of Investigations.
