New Director of Aviation Named

LAS VEGAS -- Clark County officials announced Wednesday Rosemary Vassiliadis will be the first woman to lead the Clark County Aviation Department. She will succeed Randall Walker, who is retiring June 3.

"Rosemary is widely respected, here at home as well as elsewhere around the world, thanks to her many years of exceptional leadership at one of the nation's busiest airport systems," County Manager Don Burnette said.

Vassiliadis has been the department's deputy director since Dec. 1997. She is the 11th person, and first female, to serve as the head of the Department of Aviation. She will oversee McCarran International Airport and four smaller general aviation airports in southern Nevada.

Walker announced his retirement earlier in the day. He spent 16 years in the job.

McCarran International Airport ranks among the world's busiest airports with more than 41 million passengers in 2012.
