New Mothers Embrace Stroller Strides Workout

LAS VEGAS - A fitness program is helping new mothers lose their baby weight without having to hire a babysitter.

Stroller Strides allows moms and their babies to enjoy a workout together. The exercise program has become popular among mothers in Las Vegas. Stroller strides focuses on two goals: getting moms in shape and teaching babies social skills.

The exercise routine is part of the Fit for Mom program. The 60-minute workout includes power walking, jogging and intervals of strength and body toning exercises. Mothers perform the exercises while holding their baby strollers. Participants can add songs and activities to the workout routine that allow them to interact with their babies.

Between running errands and taking care of the baby, a mother can struggle to find time and/or a babysitter for exercise. Stroller Strides attempts to solve that problem. The program gives moms an opportunity to get in shape, meet other mothers and have fun with their babies.

"It's been an amazing experience. I lost forty five pounds, and I am stronger than I have ever been in my life," said Stroller Strides member Rachael Jenkins.

"What better way than to show them that fitness is a family affair?" said Stroller Strides owner Jessica Peralta. "It's something fun. It's good for you. It's living that healthy lifestyle, but incorporating that with our little ones into it at the same time."

With eight instructors and more than 100 members, this fitness group has grown from a workout class to a large family that includes some long-lasting friendships.

Babies should be at least 6-weeks-old to participate, but can be older as long as they stay in their strollers.
