New plaza coming to Chinatown

LAS VEGAS - A vacant lot on Spring Mountain Road is on its way to be transformed. There was a groundbreaking ceremony for Shanghai plaza Friday morning.

The new plaza will be at the corner of Spring Mountain and Arville just across from the Chinatown plaza.

Plans for the 80,000 square foot building include food and beverage, retail and office space. Developers say they hope to attract Las Vegas residents and tourists from all over the world.

"Once the plaza is finished. There's going to be 43 business owners moving into the plaza opening their businesses here. It's going create hundreds of jobs," said Jaimei Wang, president, North American Shanghai Chamber of Commerce.

Just for some perspective, the new plaza will be about an 8 minute drive from the Strip. The developer says, the land was bought sometime last year and they hope to start construction right away. The plaza is expected to be finished sometime in 2018.
