NHP issues correction; says crash on Laughlin Highway wasn't fatal

LAS VEGAS - The Nevada Highway Patrol says a crash that was reported fatal on the Laughlin Highway (SR 163) at Mile Marker 13 earlier Tuesday wasn't actually a fatal. NHP sent a release saying, "the Laughlin fatal reported this afternoon, yet again turned out not to be a fatal at this time. The tweet was deleted. However, the patient is in extremely critical condition."

The crash involved one vehicle, in which another person was ejected, according to NHP.

Nevada Highway Patrol also said, from Jan. 8 at 10 a.m. through Jan. 9 at 4:30 p.m., NHP Southern Command responded to 213 wreck, two of which resulted in critical injuries.

NHP also responded to 94 motorist assists, most of those were vehicles that lost control and got stuck in the rocks on the on and off ramps and shoulders and had to be assisted out.

To put those numbers into perspective on the same days and times for last week NHP responded to 61 crashes and 73 motorist assists.

Tuesday's crash total represents over a 300 percent increase in crashes when it rains on highways in Southern Nevada.

According to NHP, drivers need to slow down and realize their car behaves differently on wet, slick pavement.
