LAS VEGAS -- It's a monsoon deja vu for people living in parts of the northwest valley. Storms coming down Sunday night meant a messy commute Monday morning, especially along Grand Teton Drive.
It is the same neighborhood where roads turned into rivers last year due to flash flooding. A major flood control project is now underway to help divert rainwater off the roads.
But for now, many neighbors are taking both the rain and the construction in stride.
People who live in the neighborhood near Grand Teton and Buffalo drives say the construction is necessary.
The saying goes "when it rains, it pours" and that was the case at Rosati's pizza Sunday night.
"Our phones were ringing like crazy! That's good, that's good," Rosati's owner Ken Corbett said.
Corbett says he made 70 pizza deliveries in just a matter of hours because a monsoon storm flooded streets, kept people home and calling out for dinner.
"What it does is business shifts so instead of dine in; it becomes delivery oriented when we get these floods," Corbett said.
The floods left a number of vehicles stranded overnight near the Kyle Canyon Detention Basin. No one was hurt in the weekend flooding.
It was far less dramatic than what happened last year when Grand Teton Drive became a drain for flood water rushing down from Mt. Charleston.
Jason Yocum, who moved to Las Vegas from Florida a few years ago, didn't think he would see such bad flooding in the desert.
He also didn't expect a huge flood control project taking place in his neighborhood, but he's taking it all in stride.
"I avoid Grand Teton whenever it rains," Yocum said, "I know people are angry who live off Grand Teton but they are working on it. Just be patient."
Crews are putting in new underground storm drains to help divert rain water off the streets and away from homes and businesses.
"It's a problem that needs to be fixed," Corbett said.
Corbett says with all the flood control construction on the roadways, his delivery business may continue to do well plus he has a found a new customer base that is proving to be loyal so far.
"The nice thing is the guys doing the work, they like to eat pizza," Corbett said.
Construction is set to be completed by May of next year.
