Nye County Sheriff: Teen beats, kills puppy for chewing on shoes

LAS VEGAS - A 17-year-old is facing an animal cruelty charge after killing a puppy, according to the Nye County Sheriff's Office.

A deputy was called to the teen's home in Pahrump on Monday after an animal control officer arrived and found the juvenile holding a limp pit bull puppy that looked dead.

The juvenile said when he woke up he discovered the puppy had chewed his new shoes and he took the shoes and hit the puppy several times, then threw a shoe at the puppy and kicked the puppy, the deputy said.

A necropsy was performed on the puppy and showed that the puppy died as a result of blunt force trauma to its chest area.

A juvenile probation officer was called to the home to take the teen into custody.
