Officer Shot in Deadly Wednesday Shooting Identified

LAS VEGAS -- The three police officers involved in the deadly shooting of a murder suspect on Wednesday have been identified.

Metro Police say the officers involved are Metro Police Officers Greg Theobald and Thomas Faller and Henderson Police Detective David Rowlett. Officer Theobald was shot during the encounter. He was released from University Medical Center on Thursday and is expected to recover.

The three officers were members of a multi-agency task force assigned to capturing high-risk criminal suspect.

The shootout between police and 23-year-old Jason Baires happened around 2 a.m. on Michael Way near Washington Avenue on Feb. 1, 2012 after police pulled over Baires, who was suspected in a murder.

Police say Baires fired several shots at them. Police returned fire and killed him.

The Clark County Coroner says Baires died from head and chest wounds. He was suspected in a murder that happened Tuesday afternoon. Police say 50-year-old Rodolfo Velasco-Bayardo was found stabbed to death at a home on Stacey Avenue. Police identified Baires as the suspect.

Baires had a history of arrests, including arrests for possession of stolen goods, ex-felon in possession of a firearm, and drug charges.
