Officer shot, wounded in officer-involved shooting ID'd

LAS VEGAS - The officer injured in the officer-involved shooting on Aug. 1 has been identified.

According to Metro Police, Officer Richard Nelson was the officer shot on the lower side of his chest in the shootout that occurred Tuesday in the 4100 block of West Tompkins Avenue.

Officer Nelson was taken to University Medical Center for treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.   The suspect, Miguel Salas, died at the scene.

The 33-year-old officer has been employed with the LVMPD since April 2009, Metro said. 

Officer Nelson is assigned to the Community Policing Division, Enterprise Area Command, and has been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a review of this incident.
