One Dead, 2 Hurt in Small Plane Crash in Arizona

LAS VEGAS -- One person was killed and two more people were hurt when a small plane made an emergency landing Thursday morning outside Wikieup, Arizona, two and a half hours southeast of Las Vegas.

One of the victims was brought to a Las Vegas hospital for treatment. Another victim, a 13-year-old boy was transported to a hospital in Phoenix.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the single-engine Mooney M20 experienced engine problems at about 11:15 a.m., forcing it to land in an open area near Wikieup.

A spokesperson for the FAA said the plane was on its way from Sedona, Arizona to Shafter, California.

The teenager called the Mohave County Sheriff dispatchers reporting that the plane he was on with his mom and dad had crashed.
