One person sustains minor injuries after gun explodes in desert area

LAS VEGAS - Metro Police says one person sustained minor injuries after a gun exploded Wednesday afternoon.

The victim was hit with shrapnel or parts from the gun in a Bureau of Land Management desert area off the I-15 and Mile Marker 14, near Las Vegas Boulevard.

The incident occurred before 5 p.m. and it's unknown if the victim is male or female, according to police. 

Police say the location isn't a gun range, but individuals are allowed to shoot firearms in the area.
