ONLY ON 8: One-year anniversary of unsolved double murder approaches for victims family

LAS VEGAS - Nearly a year after a young couple was murdered, the killer still hasn't been caught.

A Las Vegas family is asking the community for to help make a break in a double homicide case. A mother makes emotional plea to those who have information about her daughter's death.

"I just kept going, please don't let it be her, please don't let it be her, please don't let it be here. I just kept saying that," Land said.

Connie Land's desperate plea as she rushed to her daughter's apartment last October not knowing it was too late. Twenty-one-year-old Sydney Land and her boyfriend Neo Kauffman were shot and killed.

"For me personally, I wasn't going to ask why because for me to ask why, I will never get an answer that will satisfy that question,” Land said.

Land seeks a different answer and needs to know who. The one-year anniversary of Sydney’s death is near and Land is pushing for people to come forward.

"We believe this is not a forced entry. We believe that the people that killed them, knew them and that's why it's imperative that the friends and people in their circle come forward,” Land said. "Silence is acceptance, and for people to turn a blind eye, never in a million years did we think this would happen to our life."

Investigators on the case tell 8 News NOW they have one person of interest and are considering other possible suspects. Any details or information about the double homicide could help this case gain traction.

"There are killers that are walking around and there are people that know and have turned a blind eye," Land said.

Sydney is remembered for bringing out the best in others with a positive and a kind young woman who loved unconditionally.

"Our two boys and daughter have lost their sister, you go on a family vacation and she's not there,” Land added. “You take a family picture and it almost doesn't feel quite right that she's not here and she should be."

The family is also raising money to go towards an award for information that leads to an arrest on the case.

So far, the family has raised $2,000, but are having an additional fundraiser on October 11 at Mingo Kitchen and Lounge where proceeds from some of the food and beverages will increase that award.
