Overnight fire damages vacant motel

LAS VEGAS - An early-morning fire tore through a Las Vegas motel that was supposed to be vacant.  No one was hurt, but the fire caused more damage to the building which has already burned in the past.

The fire started just before 2 a.m. in a second-floor room of the TOD Motor Motel on Las Vegas Boulevard, just north of the Stratosphere.

Officials with Las Vegas Fire and Rescue say the building has been vacant for years, but is a frequent spot for squatters.  The motel has also been the scene of several fires, including one in October, which was blamed on homeless campers.

No one was hurt in Thursday's fire.  The exact cause is still under investigation.
