Parents hope to raise money to see kids in World Series

LAS VEGAS -- Can Las Vegas bring home the title of best little league team in the world?

The Mountain Ridge All-Star team arrived at the Little League World Series in Pennsylvania Sunday.

Now, they are waiting on their parents to get there and cheer them on. The problem is many parents don't have the available funds to go across country at a moments notice.

The Mountain Ridge 12-year-old all-star team is getting a lot of free cool stuff. For going to the Little League World Series, they got a flight to Williamsport, Pennsylvania, new equipment and jerseys.

It has been the summer of glove for the Mountain Ridge baseball team.

First, they won their local district tournament.

"We went to every game," Joella Jones-Steele, whose son Dillon is on the team, said.

They went undefeated in the state tournament in Reno.

"Governor Sandoval came out, which was pretty amazing. We all really enjoyed that," Jones-Steele said.

After cruising through San Bernardino and winning it all, the 14 boys are headed to the Little League World Series.

"The good news is you're the first team in Nevada to ever make it to Williamsport, and everybody just went crazy. And the next thing is, the bad news is you've got to wake up at 2:45 and take a shuttle bus to LAX," Jones-Steele said.

That was the last Jones-Steele saw her son Dillon in person, of course he was all over the national sports highlights.

"I didn't know to cry, laugh. I was just like 'oh my gosh,'" Jones-Steele said.

Most of the kids on the team have been with Mountain Ridge Little League since they were 6 years old and most learned all about the game at the fields of Mountain Ridge park behind Centennial Hills Hospital.

The field is also where the little league hopes to raise money for the all-stars from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday night. Money to help pay for their parents to travel and cheer on the boys.

"I'm really hoping the community comes through for us. I'm hoping that we can get some really big donations from some of our community sponsors here," Kristi Black with Mountain Ridge Little League said.

To get to Williamsport, the flights cost about $570 and the cheapest hotel in the area is about $150, if it is not sold out. That is about $1,300 total for two people.

Money which will be used to take an once-in-a-lifetime journey and hopefully bring home the title of best team in the world.
