Park-goers on high alert after woman was attacked in Desert Breeze Park

LAS VEGAS - The search continued Monday for an alleged sexual predator who attacked a jogger over the weekend.  The incident happened at Desert Breeze Park around 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning. The park, which is one of Clark County's largest parks, is located near S. Durango Drive and W. Desert Inn Road.

According to Metro Police, the woman was jogging by herself when she was attacked from behind.  She told investigators, the suspect ordered her to remove her clothes as he attempted to pull off her shorts.

Friends, Sookjai Komchai and Jacqui Coombs, walk at the park at least three times a week, but they walk together.

"It's scary, but that's, you know, why it's also confirming not to ever walk alone," said Sookjai Komchai, park attendee.

"This way is more secure if somebody tries to attack or you know, just start talking to you," said Jacqui Coombs, park-goer.

They two friends are also applauding the victim for her bravery.  Police say she told her attacker she would give him money if he left her alone.

That's when police say she walked with him to a nearby Von's where she yelled for help, causing the suspect to run away.  Security cameras captured images of the victims and the suspects.

"I hope she's all right. You know, I know that was traumatic," one park-goer said.  "That was excellent, you know. I look at SVU all the time, and they tell you, make some kind of noise."

The suspect's still on the loose, so Metro Police is reminding the public to be extra cautious.  Clark County Park Police patrols some parks but officers are not stationed at any one location.

"I listen to my gospel music while I'm walking, but now I'm just going to look around and make sure no one is getting too close," the park attendee said.

Aside from the surveillance images, police have only released a vague description of the suspect.  Anyone who recognizes him is urged to contact Metro Police at (702) 828-3421.

To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers by phone at (702) 385-5555, or on the internet at www.crimestoppersofnv.com.
