PD: 4-year-old killed in murder-suicide in southwest valley

LAS VEGAS - Metro Police investigated a murder-suicide involving an adult and a 4-year-old child Wednesday night.

According to Metro Police, officers responded to a home in the 8700 block of Norton Peak Avenue near Blue Diamond Road and Durango Drive around 7:06 p.m.

Detectives said a woman's estranged boyfriend, who's also the father of the child, forced his way into the home and tied the woman and her child up before stabbing them.

During the attack, the grandmother who was in the home was able to call 911.  At some point, she was able to untie her grandson and his mother and get them out of the house. They were assisted by a neighbor, Metro's Lt. Dan McGrath said.

Metro said the mother and child were taken to the Southern Hills hospital with multiple stab wounds, but the child died from the injuries around 7:20 p.m.  The mother was eventually transported to University Medical Center for treatment.  She received multiple stab wounds to her head and face.  She's said to be in critical condition, but expected to survive, Metro said.

When K-9 officers entered the home, the suspect was found dead in a bathroom of the home. According to officers, the suspect appeared to have died from self-inflicted stab wounds, but that has to be confirmed later by the Clark County Coroner.

The suspect's name wasn't released, but Lt. McGrath said there was an incident of domestic violence in which the suspect was arrested for back in 2015.
