Truck hits, kills11-year-old near Sandhill and Viking

LAS VEGAS - An 11-year-old, later identified by the Clark County Coroner's Office as Jazmin Honorato-Espana, was hit and killed by a truck in central Las Vegas Wednesday, Metro Police said. 

It happened around 2:45 p.m. near S. Sandhill and E. Viking roads.  According to police, Honorato-Espana was walking with a group of friends crossing the street in a crosswalk when the tail end of a Republic Services of Southern Nevada dump truck, that was driving northbound on Viking, struck her.

The girl died at the scene, police said.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved in the tragic accident today," a statement from Republic Services of Southern Nevada said.  "We are cooperating fully with the Las Vegas Metro Police Department as part of their ongoing investigation into the matter. We are referring all media inquiries to the Police Department at this time."
