Pedestrian Struck, Killed on U.S. 95 Near Lake Mead Blvd.

LAS VEGAS -- A man is dead after at least one vehicle struck him on U.S. 95 near Lake Mead Boulevard.

According to Nevada Highway Patrol, the man was running across the highway shortly before 12 p.m. Sunday, when at least one vehicle hit him.

Richard Kahn and his wife witnessed the accident.

"My wife, she was shocked. She said, 'I don't know.' She (had) never seen this before," he said.

Kahn says he saw the man running across the highway from the southbound lanes toward Kahn's car. Kahn was driving north in the slow lane.

Kahn says he swerved sharply to avoid the man, but hit him with his side-view mirror.

"That's what I did. Instantly, I tried to avoid him right, but he comes. His hand or a body, I don't know, hit my mirror, and then he ran again," he said.

The pedestrian ran toward on-coming traffic that was traveling at approximately 60 miles per hour. A truck tried to avoid him, but hit him.

"I think that guy was suicidal... That's what I think happened. He wanted to kill himself. That's why he was running on the road," one driver said.

Authorities are still determining why he was on the highway. He was transported to University Medical Center where he died upon arrival.

This accident remains under investigation.
