Performer Falls During Zarkana Show

LAS VEGAS - A Cirque du Soleil performer suffered non-life-threatening injuries after falling during a performance of "Zarkana" Friday night.

A Cirque du Soleil representative says the accident occurred during the 7 p.m. performance of the show, which takes place at the Aria Hotel-Casino.

Cirque du Soleil said in a statement, "During the 7 p.m. performance of 'Zarkana' (Friday) night, an artist performing in the 'Wheel of Death' act slipped and fell off the wheel. The show was halted, and the artist was transported to UMC where he is in stable condition and is expected to be released from the hospital in the next few days."

This is the second accident this year involving a Cirque du Soleil performer.

Thirty-one-year-old Sarah Guillot-Guyard died June 29 after the wire rope she was attached to broke during a battle scene of the show "Ka" at MGM Grand. She fell about 94 feet and died from multiple blunt force trauma.

According to an OSHA report, Cirque du Soleil was cited for six items in that incident, including not properly training Guillot-Guyard and for not properly assessing the stage for hazards. Cirque du Soleil faces more than $25,000 in fines in that incident.
