UPDATE: Police make arrest in deadly east valley stabbing

LAS VEGAS - Metro Police arrested a man they believe stabbed another man to death on Saturday afternoon.

The incident happened just before 4:00 p.m. near a walking trail located behind a business in the area of Nellis Boulevard and Stewart Avenue.

When officers arrived on scene they found an unresponsive man suffering from a stab wound to the chest. Medical responders transported the victim to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

According to Metro Homicide detectives, the victim and 54-year-old Arnold Whitehead got into a fight. Whitehead pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim, said Metro.

Whitehead left the scene of the crime, but officers found him nearby and took him into custody. He was transported to Clark County Detention Center and booked on one count of murder with a deadly weapon, according to investigators.

Metro Police say a booking photo of Whitehead is not currently available.

This is the 12th homicide investigated by the LVMPD in 2017. The identity of the victim, as well as the cause and manner of death, will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
