LAS VEGAS -- Authorities have identified a 52-year-old man who they say shot his daughter before turning the gun on himself. The man has been identified by the Clark County Coroner's office as Rene Espinal of Las Vegas.
According to police, the shooting happened at around 6:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Regency Heights Apartments on East Lake Mead Boulevard, which is near Pecos Road.
"Somehow that argument turned violent and the anger turn towards her, it does appear he is the subject that shot her and then turned the gun on himself," Metro Lt. Mark Reddon said.
Police say Espinal shot his 19-year-old daughter several times in the upper torso, then turned the gun on himself. He died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The 19-year-old daughter was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition, but she is stable, police said.
Police said these types of calls increase this time of year and added officers are usually the first ones called when things are spiraling out of control.
If someone is talking about suicide, get help before it's too late according to authorities.
