LAS VEGAS -- A 34-year-old man was shot Thursday in what North Las Vegas police are describing as an attempted home invasion.

Police officers responded to a home in the 1700 block of Victoria Terrace Avenue about 9 a.m. Thursday after a woman reported that someone had kicked in her front door while she and her two young children were upstairs. The person fled, but evidence at the scene indicated that he was injured.

About two hours later, Shunta Hilliard, 34, went to a hospital with a gunshot wound. According to police, he was reportedly shot while attempting to break into a house in the 2400 block of Sunset Hills Court, about half a mile from the woman's house.

Hilliard was trying to break into the Sunset Hills house when the homeowner shot him before he got in the house, according to the preliminary investigation. He ran off and then broke into the woman's house. When he saw the woman, he ran east toward a business on Camino Al Norte and Ann Road and called someone to pick him up and take him to the hospital.

Hilliard has four felony warrants through Metro Police. He is listed in serious condition at the hospital and is in the custody of Metro. It is unknown whether he will face charges in connection with the home invasions.

The homeowner who is alleged to have shot Hilliard did not call police to report the shooting. It is also unknown whether he will face charges in connection to the shooting.
