Police Presence Increased at Valley Schools

LAS VEGAS - As parents prepare to send their kids to school Friday morning, many expressed concern about their kids' safety. Metro Police assures threats made against valley schools are not credible, but officers will be staked out at schools anyway.

Clark County School District Police say their officers, along with Metro Police officers, will patrol school campuses Friday.

This is the last Friday before the two-week winter break and the one-week anniversary of the shooting massacre at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut.

School officials are preparing for anything, especially since rumors of possible violence are flooding schools. Metro Police and CCSD Police are attempting to reassure the public that they have not found a single credible threat.

It's not clear how many officers will be at each campus. Parents say they are glad the district is beefing up security.

"I think they're doing the best they can. No one's ever prepared fully for something like that, but I think they're definitely taking the necessary steps in case something would happen," said parent Abby Lauber.

"I spoke with other parents, and it's the same concern," added parent Dynesiah Morgan. "They feel that there needs to be more security at the schools, including elementary schools."

Officials are asking students and parents to stop spreading rumors. If you have information about potential school violence, report it by calling Clark County School District Police, 311 or, in the case of an extreme emergency, 911.

Many schools have been conducting emergency drills in the event someone dangerous comes on campus.
