NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- North Las Vegas Police are searching for a suspect in the sexual assault of a child under 14 years old.
Police are looking for 32-year-old Guadalupe "Lupe" Barrales. He has no known address, but does work as a dishwasher in the area of Rampart Boulevard and Alta Drive. Police say he has not shown up for work.
Police also say Barrales is a close friend of the victim's family, and he may have been staying with them at a home near Commerce Street and Carey Avenue. The female victim is under the age of 10.
Sergeant Tim Bedwell said this all started a couple of weeks ago when Barrales sexually assaulted a daughter of a family he was staying with.
Detectives believe Barrales sexually assaulted the girl on several occasions.
"This was someone well known to the family, it was a trusted person that was allowed inside the home," Bedwell said.
Police said he betrayed the families trust and took advantage of the relationship he had with the family.
The young victim spoke up and since the allegations came out, there hasn't been any sign of Barrales or his 1997 pick up truck vehicle.
"We believe he could still be in the area, there is the possibility that he also might have fled," Bedwell said.
Barrales may have ties to Mexico and they're considering the possibility he might head that way according to investigators.
He is described as a Hispanic man, 5 foot 8 and 180 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. He has a prominent scar across the left side of his forehead.
He was last seen driving a white 1997 Nissan pickup truck with Nevada license plate 065 VVJ.
Police say Barrales has ties to Mexico.
