Polls Close in Nevada

LAS VEGAS - The polls have closed in Nevada in the general election.

Polls in Nevada were open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Election officials said long wait times should not be an issue, but there were steps voters can take to make the voting experience a little smoother. Election officials recommend voters bring their sample ballots, forms of identification and a little patience.

"We want them to study their sample ballots, bring it with them and have it marked. That speeds up the whole voting process," said Clark County Registrar of Voters Larry Lomax.

As of 4:30 p.m., 133,161 Clark County voters visited the polls on election day; statewide, the number of voters who turned out so far was 196,395.

Voters turned out in large numbers for early voting. About 50 percent of active voters in Nevada voted early. That's one reason election officials don't expect long lines on Election Day.

The Clark County Elections Department has extra staff on hand to answer phones and help voters at the polls.

Voting during the day, if possible, is better than trying to beat the crowds in the late afternoon. If you don't have a sample ballot, you can find one at the Clark County Election Department website.
