Propane tank explodes in Henderson

HENDERSON, Nev. -- Fire crews responded to an explosion and fire at a recycling plant in Henderson Tuesday morning.

According to Henderson Police, a propane tank at Nevada Recycling exploded just before 6 a.m. and started a fire. The plant is on Sunset Road between Gibson and Eastgate roads, west of Boulder Highway. Fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire, and no one was injured.

A Henderson Police Department spokesperson says workers were disposing of used propane tanks - a process that entails cutting open the empty tanks.

When crews began cutting open the tank, some residue on it ignited. Debris in a nearby dumpster caught fire, sending a plume of smoke over the facility.
