Radio Stars in "What's Cool at School"

LAS VEGAS, NV - The Radio Production class at Desert Pines High School goes beyond local airwaves. These students are in "Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), and in weeks, they will compete in a national competition.

The Radio Production class focuses on more than the mic - they tackle the business side of broadcasting.

Students learn the nuts-and-bolts of the industry, providing groundwork for college and careers.

Students in the class take on a variety of radio business projects like marketing, sales, e-biz, and advertising; and also work on non-radio gigs like publication design, creating an all-ages TV show, promoting a Golden Knights game, and managing a music career.

The instruction continues outside the classroom door, gaining experience covering events at Thomas and Mack, for example.

Ten Desert Pines students qualified for the upcoming competition in Anaheim, and will use their radio production experience to demonstrate skills before judges in public speaking, advertising, journalism, business ethics, and leadership.

Participants take written tests, prepare scripts, deliver original speeches, and show judges how their experience learning the business of broadcasting, has readied them to be future business leaders!
