Raiders file relocation paperwork to move to Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS - The Raiders have officially filed paperwork with the NFL to relocate to Las Vegas from Oakland.

"Today we moved one step closer to having an NFL team to call our own. This is very exciting for Las Vegas. Many great people have put in a lot of time and effort to get us this far," said Clark County Commission Chairman Steve Sisolak. "I am especially appreciative of the commitment from the Raiders organization, specifically Mark Davis and Marc Badain, and we wouldn’t be where we are today without the tireless efforts of the Adelson family."

The proposed 65,000-seat domed stadium is expected to cost $1.9 billion, including $750 million in hotel tax revenue, $650 million from Adelson, and $500 million from the Raiders and the NFL. Any relocation to Las Vegas must be approved by three-fourths of NFL team owners.

The NFL released the following statement:

"Today the Oakland Raiders submitted an application to relocate their franchise to Las Vegas, as is provided for under the NFL Policy and Procedures for Proposed Franchise Relocations.

The application will be reviewed in the coming weeks by league staff and the Stadium and Finance Committees. The relocation of a franchise requires the affirmative vote of three-quarters of the NFL clubs (24 of 32)."
