Raiders, UNLV reach stadium deal

LAS VEGAS - UNLV and the Oakland Raiders' stadium developers have reached an agreement to share the new $1.9 billion stadium when finished, according to paperwork for an upcoming Board of Regents meeting.

The agreement represents the conclusion of one of the last major hurdles for the project, though it still has to be approved, not only by the Board of Regents, but the Stadium Authority Board as well.

Both sides negotiated the deal for months. Some of the details are tied directly to Senate Bill 1, which sparked the stadium project.

The agreement says that UNLV gets $3.5 million from the Stadium Authority for the next 10 years, which offsets the loss of Sam Boyd Stadium. Also included, is scheduling.

UNLV gets to host two non-conference games, but mainly from major college football programs.

The school can put up signs, showing the building is the "Home of UNLV Football” and have its own logo on the field during games. UNLV also gets all ticket revenue from its games and can use its own ticketing system.

It all sounds dry, but without this agreement, the Raiders stadium cannot move forward.

However, the agreement could move forward next week.

Next week's meeting is part of a two-part process and another meeting is scheduled for January 18 when the Board of Regents are expected to finally green light the deal. After that, it's up to the Stadium Authority to give final approval.
