Rape Crisis Center target of hate crime

LAS VEGAS -- Vandals targeted the Rape Crisis Center overnight on Thursday, spray painting "The Rapist" in bright red paint near the entrance.

The center said police were made aware of the situation, but Executive Director Daniele Dreitzer told 8 News NOW officers warned it could take up to a week for them to investigate because of workload.

"We can't wait that long for them (police) to come," she said. She hopes the media can help bring awareness and possibly information on who might have done it. "We are extremely upset."

"We want to use this very unfortunate situation to let the community what we do to provide support to victims as they navigate both the medical and legal systems as they make their way through recovery," Dreitzer said.

The center was founded in 1974 as Community Action Against Rape with the goal of supporting victims of sexual assault within Clark County, their website said.
