Nevada Senator Harry Reid announced Saturday morning that Nevada will receive $204,381,300 in federal funding for projects at Nellis Air Force Base, Naval Air Station Fallon, Reno VA Medical Center.

In addition, $90 million was allocated nationwide for construction of state veteran extended care facilities, including one to be constructed in Reno.

Reid pushed for the funding to be included in the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies (MilCon-VA) appropriations bill, which was signed into law this week by President Obama.

“Nevada’s military installations and veterans’ facilities play a vital role in securing our nation and supporting our troops both at home and abroad,” said Senator Reid. “These investments will fund much-needed construction and modernization projects to ensure our military has the resources they need to successfully carry out their mission. This will also help fund essential veterans services and facilities to help us honor our sacred obligation to those who have served our country. I remain committed to ensuring our troops and veterans get the support, training and services they deserve.”

Below is the funding Breakdown:

Nellis Air Force Base: $10,600,000 for F-35A POL Fill Stand Addition – This will fund construction of two new jet fuel truck fill stands and one new pump house to support the fuel requirements of additional F-35A aircraft arriving at Nellis Air Force Base.

Naval Air Station Fall: $13,523,000 for Air Wind Simulator Facility – This will fund an Air Wing Simulator Facility that will support desk-style aircraft simulators, Virtual Aegis Combat simulators (VACsim), F-35 Mission Rehearsal Trainers (MRT), and Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) simulators, E-2D simulators and support spaces.

Reno VA Medical Center: $192,429,000 to Correct Seismic Deficiencies and Expand Clinical Service of Building 1: This will fund a project to fully renovate approximately 98,400 gross square feet (GSF) of Building 1 by seismically correcting the building, correcting all facility condition assessment (FCA) deficiencies and demolishing a portion of the building.

Additionally, this project will construct an approximately 166,000 GSF clinical expansion to correct space deficiencies. Approximately 50,000 GSF of Building 1 will be demolished to ensure enough space will be available for the expansion. Upon completion, Building 1 will be transformed into a modern structure supporting healthcare for veterans.

Nationwide: $90,000,000 for Grants for Construction of State Extended Care Facilities: This program funds construction of state home facilities, for furnishing domiciliary or nursing home care to veterans, and to expand, remodel or alter existing buildings for furnishing domiciliary or nursing home care to veterans in state homes. This additional  funding, secured by Senator Reid, will allow the Veterans Administration to rapidly move through the nationwide backlog of Veterans Extended Care Facilities and expedite the planning and eventual construction of the Veterans Extended Care Facility in Reno.
