Report: Miracle Mile shooter is an ex-convict

Second suspect arrested

LS VEGAS - The man accused of shooting two security guards at the Miracle Mile Shops Thursday night was an ex-felon who had no plans to go back to prison, according to his arrest report.

Jonathan Ozuna, 34, was arrested Friday and is facing:

  • 2 counts of attempted murder
  • 2 counts of battery with a deadly weapon
  • 3 counts of burglary
  • he also had possession of a firearm which is prohibited for a felon

Ozuna, and another man identified as Jamie Gonzalez-Ortiz, had reportedly stolen sunglasses from a store in the Miracle Miles shops. The two security guards were called to investigate.

Their investigation led them to the parking garage where they approached Ozuna who dropped several shopping bags and ran. During the pursuit, Ozuna fired two to four times at the guards, hitting one guard in the hand and the other in the next, the report said.

A later search of the bags showed they were full of $2,000 worth of stolen items, according to the report.

Surveillance video showed Ozuna was able to escape the garage and get into a pickup truck, the report said.

Anonymous sources helped police identify Ozuna which led to his arrest.

Police also arrested the second suspect, Jamie Gonzalez-Ortiz, whose attorney contacted police in reference to the shooting. Gonzalez told police he was with Ozuna during the stealing of merchandise in the Miracle Mile Shops and fled to his truck when they got caught, the report said.

Gonzalez said, he was circling the Planet Hollywood property when he spotted Ozuna and picked him up. He noticed the gun and Ozana told him he had shot at someone. According to the report, Gonzalez called his attorney the next morning.

Gonzalez is facing charges of burglary, grand larceny, conspiracy to commit burglary and conspiracy to commit grand larceny.
