Report: School bus driver forgot to do student check

LAS VEGAS - A Clark County School District bus driver failed to check her school bus which resulted in a special education student being left on an empty bus for nearly an hour, according to the driver's arrest report.

Luz Garcia is facing a child endangerment charge and lost her job with the school district.

The incident happened on May 16 when another bus driver found a 3-year-old boy in the Northwest bus transportation yard standing next to a bus.

District officials believed the boy may have been on that bus and were able to confirm that after viewing video from the bus.

According to the report, the video also showed that the driver, Garcia, did not preform the required student check inspection at the completion of each run before proceeding to the next stop or bus yard. The check is done to make sure no students are hiding or sleeping on the bus.

Garcia told district officials she didn't do the check that day because she only picked up two special education students, but she had actually picked up three, the report said.

Garcia admitted she had messed up, according to the report.

She had been with the school district less than two months.
