Residents shocked, disturbed teen was killed and body was burned

LAS VEGAS - The Clark County Coroner’s office and police are still working to identify the body of a teen girl found that was found over the weekend.

Metro Police released a composite sketch Monday of the teen whose burned body was found at an apartment complex in the 700 block of Rock Springs Drive an apartment.

Officer Laura Meltzer says the teen was female, bout 5-foot-4 and 100 pounds. She appeared to have been between 16 and 20 years old.

Meltzer said a resident in the area found the body Saturday morning after noticing burn marks on a wall in a remote corner of the complex.

Neighbors 8 News NOW spoke with were horrified by what had happened.

"I don't care what any female does.  It does not give anybody the right to kill them," Sunnee Luz said as she got choked up.  "What is wrong with people!?  Why?!  I think of her mother.  Oh, my God, her mother needs to know."

Luz lives just four doors down from where the victim's body was found.  There are burn marks alongside a back wall where a small memorial has been growing for the teen.

"Our neighbor down at the corner, he saw at about 8:30 that Friday night, he saw a teenager on a 10-speed bike," Luz said.  "He saw a black teenager on a 10-speed bicycle dragging a gasoline can."

Metro Police says the girl was dead before her body was set on fire.

It's terrible, Kathy Kinzer said.  "It makes you sick to think that there are people out there doing that kind of stuff."

Metro homicide detectives are still trying to figure out if the girl was murdered where her body was found or if she was move adjacent to the neighborhood park after her death.

In the meantime, one local grandmother is thinking about taking her kids somewhere else.

"It's kind of scary, seeing this, said Kathy Kinzer. "I might look for a safer place to bring them."
