Robots and Rockets in "What's Cool at School"

LAS VEGAS - Harmon Elementary fourth graders are designing video games, building robots, and using 3-D printers to build and launch rockets.

Their industrious teacher sent out a tweet asking for help with enhanced classroom technology. That tweet got the attention of Junior League of Las Vegas, Century Link, and Best Buy - leading to a technology-filled classroom!
One assignment - for students to build, design, and share their own video games. And those games must be marketable.

The kids use Bloxels - kind of like Lite Brite for the previous generation - to capture images, integrate them, add animation, landscaping, and characters - creating everything with their imagination.

The final step with their video games is Art Class, where they produce the packaging to market their game. Truly the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) approach.

Another project is working with Spheros Robots, programmed by students to do exactly what they want them to do!

They are learning angles, measurement, programming....and persistence! Sometimes it takes 100 times to get it right.

From robots to rockets, where they use computer aided design to manipulate, meaure, and build rockets; and the best part for students, using compressed air to launch those very rockets!
