Rock 'n' Roll Marathon announces new start line

Some events on Las Vegas Festival Grounds

LAS VEGAS - The GEICO Rock 'n' Roll Marathon and half-marathon announced a new start line Friday which is north of the previous start line which had been at the site of the Oct. 1 mass shooting.

However, the Las Vegas Festival Grounds, will be used for other events including the Health & Fitness Expo and Saturday's 5K. The marathon is the weekend of Nov. 11 and 12. The marathon starts at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.

“After consultation and review with our partners in Las Vegas, we have determined the new location will remain on Las Vegas Blvd., but will be moved to the New York-New York Hotel & Casino, approximately one mile north of the previously planned start line,” said Josh Furlow, President of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series.

All other events will go on as planned and the finish lines for all the races has not changed. Those will be on Las Vegas Boulevard in front of the Mirage Hotel & Casino. The final course of the map has yet to be released.

Race organizers have also joined in a campaign to give back to those affected by the tragedy. Sponsors, vendors and participants are encouraged to donate to a donation page for the victims. There will be #VegasStrong shirts for sale with all proceeds going to the victims' fund. There will also be a special on-course tribute during the marathon and half-marathon.
