LAS VEGAS -- Safety is a top priority for law enforcement with thousands of visitors in town for the National Finals Rodeo.
Day two of the rodeo has had record-breaking crowds for opening night and organizers expect it to continue throughout the 10 day event.
Police said they are ready with officers to keep an eye out and make sure everyone has a good time.
It may look like total chaos, but there's a science behind moving more than 17,000 people in and out of the Thomas & Mack Center every night, according to rodeo organizers.
Thomas & Mack Executive Director Mike Nucomb said the science is safety and security for event goers especially for tourists.
"Well there are a lot of moving parts, a lot of staff, obviously the largest event we do year to year," Nucomb said. "There's very high security here at the National Finals Rodeo, with the animals involved, the contestants, the safety of everyone and the sheer number of people."
About 200 staff members take tickets, check credentials and screen bags for the rodeo. Metro officers are in plain clothes and undercover officers are watching for everything from weapons to scalpers.
"We are going to have officers manning the event from everywhere from traffic control to officers actually staffing the event inside," Metro officer Jose Hernandez said.
Thousands of visitors means huge business for rodeo officials and said an estimated 175,000 people will pump in millions of dollars into Las Vegas during the festivities.
The weekend crowds will only get bigger as parties for rodeo visitors are held all over the Las Vegas Strip, according to event organizers.
Metro Police will be out in force making sure everyone stays safe and they'll be looking for people who have had a little too much to drink that decide to get behind the wheel.
Another big event is the Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez fight held at MGM Grand Saturday night.
Metro said they will have officers staged at that event as well.
